"This Church has been a shining light of Jesus’ love in one of
Nicaragua’s poorest communities. It is estimated that 50 percent of
the population lives below the poverty level in Nicaragua. But
regardless of the level of desperation of the people, in the short
time I was there, I was able to meet some people whose lives were
completely changed due to the work God is doing through this Church.
Two men I meet were ex-alcoholics, one used to beg for money in the
street, and in less then one year these men’s' lives are free of
alcohol and faithfully following after the Lord. One of them walks 4
miles every day to go to the daily devotional service they have
every morning.
It’s a sad story, but most of the kids at the
orphanage were sexually abused before they found refuge there.
Despite everything these kids have gone through, they had an
inexplicable joy and love for God. It blew me away, how devoted the
kids were. On a normal Sunday about 100 kids under the age of 13
show up for Sunday school, most of them without their parents. A lot
of these kids live outside the city dump. One of the days we visited
the city dump which is home to about 2 thousand people, and a small
herd of cows. It was a very sad and sobering experience to see these
people scavenging for things to sell or even to eat. We passed out
bible tracts, were able to tell them Jesus loves them, and invited
them to the feeding center at the church.
On this trip, I was able
to see first hand what Matthew 9:37-38 says “Then He said to His
disciples, ‘The harvest truly is plentiful but the laborers are few.
Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His
harvest.’” I learned that you don’t need to be an evangelist to
serve in the mission field, only a heart willing to serve the Lord
and His precious people." - Jack O. |
